Dedication of Brother David Boone Fellowship Hall and re-dedication of the St. Martin de Porres Chapel
July 7, 2019 we had the re-dedication of the St. Martin de Porres Chapel and the dedication of the Brother David Boone Fellowship Hall. This following video is a slideshow presentation done during the reception following the dedication and Mass. It is a history of St. Mary Catholic Church and Brother David Boone.
Father Guiliani told us what a glorious day at this Thanksgiving season to say thank you to God for Brother David and his life. All of us have been impacted by his life and his witness and by his love. He told us how Brother David loved to go home to Kentucky in August to work in the harvest. He said he had left a rich garden, in many ways. He told us how Brother David validated people and he believed in people and he called forth the best in people. David's message was that every person is of great value in the eyes of God.
Imagine an atmosphere filled with the peace and love of God. Within this atmosphere you have two different religions that are very strong in their convictions. However, they are joined under one roof to unite in similarities, instead of differences. If you thought that this could not take place in today’s political and social climate, well, I would dare to say that you do not understand the rich history of St. Mary Catholic Church. St. Mary Catholic Church, has always been a faith filled community that accepts anyone and every one, instead of excluding based upon the standards of society. On March 11, 2017, in the St. Martin de Porres Fellowship Hall, the communities of St. Mary Catholic Church, led by Father Pearce and Deacon Chisolm, and the Rock Hill Muslim Community led by their Imam (prayer leader) Essam Musa, led an atmosphere that was truly full of God’s peace and love. The program included presentations that explained t
he importance of the Catholic Mass and Islamic beliefs. Time was also set aside to accommodate for the Muslim prayer at sun down. This experience allowed for non-Muslims to witness their Muslim brothers and sisters perform one of their 5 obligated times of prayer, facing northeast towards the holiest site in Islam. A Q&A session followed and during this time
unifying pointers that both sides agreed upon was that first and foremost we both serve the same God, and that prayer establishes a connection with God. Both sides also agreed that an important part of any religion is how you behave and treat others. This wonderful experience was finally concluded with fellowship and refreshments provided by both the Muslim and Catholic communities.
