Homily-2019-11-10

November 10, 2019 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Homily by Fr. Agustín Guzmán, C.O., Pastor

Father told us that the 1st reading and the Gospel is about the Resurrection. People were thinking that there had to be something beyond this life. In the reading from Maccabees, the 7 brothers refused to eat pork, which the Greeks were forcing the Jews to eat pork, and not allowing the mothers to circumcise their sons, and not allowing them to pray to their own God. Judas and his brothers were in open revolution against the authorities. The scene is very graphic, and they were willing to sacrifice their lives rather than transgress their Jewish laws, which forbid them from eating pork. It shows their firm belief in the Resurrection.
