Homily-2019-02-17

February 17, 2019 The 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Homily by Deacon Walt Hollis

Deacon told us about the Beatitudes, when read in the Liturgy, we can easily miss the real meaning. The message they contain can take a lifetime to learn, but if we do not learn the meaning, can keep us from the kingdom of heaven. On the surface, it might appear that the Gospel is a plea for poverty, and a condemnation of riches. Jesus does not idolize poverty as a value to be sought for on its own, but as a means to follow Christ without compromise. We do not need to be burdened by material things that can get in our way of our relationship with Christ.
Also included is a presentation by Katrina Hicks on Ruby Bridges as part of Black History Month.
