2019 Homilies

January 13, 2019 The Baptism of the Lord
Homily by Rev. Dr. Joseph Pearce, C.O., Pastor

Father told us about Jesus being baptized. Asked "Why did He submit to baptism?" He did it as an example for us. That we too must submit to baptism, so that we can be as righteous as He is righteous. As Jesus told us, we must be as holy as the Father is holy. Remember what Jesus said about the holiness of the Pharisees and scribes? "Do as they say, but not as they do." They were not holy because although they did good, they did not do it with great love. Father told us that the key to holiness is doing all our deeds with great love.

January 6, 2019 The Epiphany
Homily by Deacon Dr. Terrence R. Chisolm

Deacon told us that today, as we celebrate The Epiphany, we celebrate the 3 kings, or wise men, arriving at the manger to see the child Jesus, and gave of their treasures. Only those 3 men recognized the meaning of the appearance of the star, even though everyone else would have been able to see it. It took a lot of faith on the part of the maji, and is a challenge to our faith in Christ. They followed the star to where Jesus was. Deacon told us that the star was Jesus Himself. We too are on a journey, and the star is manifested in Jesus.
